Kids. Love. Learning. Capital Campaign

For over 60 years, River Oaks Baptist School has been driven by an audacious dream: to offer an ambitious academic program while holding fast to our Christian roots. We have always believed that cultivating children’s intellect, spirituality, and character are inextricably intertwined. We are now pursuing another grand plan—construction of a new Middle School building completely designed around the way children learn best.

Research tells us learning environments matter. Kids flourish in light-filled spaces, with ample room for active learning; in outdoor areas with breeze and sunshine; in flexible spaces with the freedom to experiment; and in quiet nooks for reflection and solitude. We are building just such a place.

Our new building is designed to strengthen the bonds among students, teachers, and the entire ROBS community. Each grade will “own” a whole floor, complete with classrooms, an advanced science lab, and a spacious room where the entire grade can gather. Outdoor terraces and balconies will extend classrooms, while a room for Bible instruction and adjacent prayer garden will provide peaceful sanctuary.

The additional space allows for expansion of our curriculum and our student body. The building will include a versatile black-box theater; dedicated music rooms for instrumental and choral instruction; studio spaces for visual arts; a high tech hub for robotics, graphic design, and photography; and an underground parking garage. While our student body will grow, individual class size will diminish.

Our formula for success has produced a unique school environment in which kids love learning. Over the years, you have helped generations of children define their dreams, grow their faith in God, and go forth confidently into the world. Today, we have another ambitious vision, one we can only achieve with God’s grace and your support.

Now, together, let us reach.

Campaign Chair Susan Cox: Paying it forward

Susan and Buddy Cox, parents of daughters in the Class of 2018 and fifth grade, have been instrumental in the success of the KIDS. LOVE. LEARNING. Capital Campaign. As Chair of the Campaign, Susan leads over 70 volunteers in raising funds to make the new Middle School building a reality.

Since their first days on campus nine years ago, Susan and Buddy have been mindful of the generosity of those who came before them. “Agreeing to chair the Campaign was my family’s way of saying thank you to the School and to those who provided the superb facilities my daughters enjoy today. We want to pass on something special to the next generation of ROBS students,” says Susan.

The emphasis ROBS places on both spiritual development and a robust academic program also led to their decision to support this campaign. “The strong focus on faith and character during the school day reinforces our family values and the way we treat each other in our home. ROBS is an extension of our family." When it comes to education, the Coxes love that ROBS not only values the quality of education students receive, but also makes learning fun. “We have seen so much joy in our girls throughout their years at the School. We believe this is the best way to create lifelong learners and one of the many distinctive things about ROBS.”

In short, ROBS means everything to the Cox family. “Our children have met their best friends here. Their teachers nurture their interests, stimulate their curiosity, and continue to build upon the foundation of their faith. Buddy and I are also grateful for the amazing friendships we continue to forge during our time here. We are very blessed to be a part of this School.”

Keith and Alice Mosing: Leading with a transformational gift

Keith and Alice Mosing’s sons began Prekindergarten at ROBS in 2015. "Receiving the wonderful news that our sons were accepted into River Oaks Baptist School was truly an answered prayer. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of such a meaningful school that puts God and family first while helping instill in our children the tools they will need to be successful--not only in the classroom but also in life,” said Alice. In the summer of 2016, Keith first heard the story of the Kids. Love. Learning. Capital Campaign. During this meeting, Keith realized his desire and enthusiasm to create a lasting legacy at ROBS—a legacy his children and perhaps even grandchildren would one day enjoy.

The Mosings have graciously committed a transformational gift of $10 million to the campaign. As Keith explains, “We can never put a price on our children’s future, but I know this donation will help further the mission and vision of River Oaks Baptist School, thus ensuring the School’s and our children’s success for generations to come. Every parent wants the best for their children. ROBS is unsurpassed in teaching academics, faith, and moral character to its students so they can become the leaders of tomorrow.”

Melissa and Logan Moncrief: Supporting the School's future

Logan Moncrief (’96) and his wife, Melissa, have three children, one of whom has already begun to experience the joy-filled teaching and learning at ROBS. As a ROBS alum, Logan has a deep connection to and appreciation for the School. “The School played a significant role in building the spiritual and intellectual foundation of who I am today," says Logan. "I want the same for my children."

The Moncriefs believe a Christ-centered foundation and a high-quality education are two of the most beneficial gifts you can give a child. This belief led to their decision to generously support a project that will change ROBS for the better and provide students exceptional STEAM learning opportunities. “ROBS offers a challenging and innovative curriculum in a Christian environment that is consistent with the values we are teaching at home,” explains Melissa.

While the educational benefits of the new building and curriculum are undeniable, Logan and Melissa feel their faith led them to support the campaign as both donors and volunteers: “We believe our faith calls us to support causes that advance the kingdom of God. As avid supporters of ROBS’ mission, and as parents with many years ahead at ROBS, we want to donate our time, effort, and resources to this worthy cause.”

To the Moncriefs, no other school offers an outstanding academic education along with a focus on Christ-centered spiritual development like ROBS. "How do you put a value on that?”
