Application Process

  • 1. Complete the online application.

    Applications, along with a $100 application fee, are due by December 10, 2017 for first-round admission consideration. To be considered a legacy, an application from a student who is a sibling of an existing or former student or the child of a ROBS alum is due by November 1, 2017.

    Once an application is submitted, an Admission Checklist will be established for your child in your website account.
  • 2. Attend a tour or open house.

    All parents are required to attend a tour or open house. Students applying for fifth grade are encouraged to attend the open house with their parents. Use the Schedule a Visit online form or call the Admission Office at 713.623.6938 to register.

  • 3. Interview with the Admission Office.

    After you have completed an online application and attended a tour or open house, the Admission Office will contact you to schedule a parent interview between September and December. You also may call the Admission Office at 713.623.6938 ext. 295 to schedule your parent interview.
  • 4. Register for group testing.

    Each applicant is required to attend a one hour classroom experience where skills are assessed in a small group setting. Group testing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Use the “Register for Group Testing and OLSAT” form in your child's admission checklist to register. A $50 group testing registration fee is required. Group testing for fifth grade will take place on January 6, 2018. 

  • 5. Register for testing.

    The OLSAT and ISEE are required for students applying for fifth grade. Your child may take the OLSAT and ISEE at ROBS or another school. To register to take the OLSAT at ROBS, use the "Register for Group Testing and OLSAT" form in the admission checklist. A $50 testing registration fee is required.

    You must register directly with ERB for the ISEE exam. The ROBS school number is 447794.

    ROBS will accept only one ISEE score report. The report must come from a test date during the current admission cycle (September through January) and must be received by January 30. Please do not send more than one report.

  • 6. Submit a Parent Questionnaire.

    Use the Parent Questionnaire form in your child's admission checklist to provide us information about your child and your family. If you already submitted a Parent Questionnaire for this child in a previous year, you do not need to submit another one.
  • 7. Request a Teacher Recommendation.

    Download a Teacher Recommendation form from the admission checklist and send it to your child’s current teacher. Have the teacher return the completed form to the Admission Office by January 15, 2018.
  • 8. Request School Records.

    Download a Transcript Release form in the admission checklist. Complete and submit the form to the registrar at your child's school. We review transcripts for the past three years. If your child attended more than one school during this time, please submit a Transcript Release Form to each school. Have the school(s) return the transcripts to the Admission Office by January 15, 2018 or as soon as they are available.
  • Positions in fifth grade become available due to attrition of existing students. Each year, between one and five positions usually become available in fifth grade.

  • Admission decisions are made on the basis of teacher recommendations, transcripts, and the Otis-Lennon School Achievement Test (OLSAT) and Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) scores.
