Eighth Grade

When our eighth graders return to campus in August, they walk a little taller. They are taking hold of their new role as leaders of the student body. Your child will mentor a first grader at an HISD elementary school, lead in Chapel, and enjoy privileges such as distinctive uniforms and lunch in the courtyard.

Students and parents alike are busy this year with high school applications. Our experience is that your child will discover the school that is the best fit for his interests, abilities, and personality. You will be guided every step of the way by experienced educators who know your child well. Our results speak for themselves: our graduates attend the best private and public schools in Houston, as well as some of the nation’s finest boarding schools.

In the classroom, the eighth grade year is thorough preparation for high school. In fact, Algebra, Integrated Physics & Chemistry, and both Spanish courses are ninth grade classes. Your child will read and analyze riveting literature, including To Kill a Mockingbird, Night, and A Christmas Carol. An exceptional American History course delves deeply into the workings of the U.S. government. And, as we like to say, “All roads lead to Washington.” The pinnacle of eighth grade—and many students would say of their entire ROBS experience—is a trip to our nation’s capital. Not only do students explore some of the most significant sites in American history; they also create lasting memories with their friends while learning about democracy, leadership, and sacrifice.

As graduation nears, your children will be confident and compassionate. They will know how to make good choices. They will be prepared to become leaders wherever they land.

They are ready to soar.
I am blessed to be able to go to River Oaks Baptist School and learn from such great teachers. Without ROBS, I wouldn’t have been able to discover many of my talents that I enjoy, and for that I am extremely grateful. I am able to see how much of an impact school can make in a person’s life.
