Giving

A gift to ROBS is an investment in children learning how to build a better world. Lots of schools make this promise, but ROBS has a proven record of delivering on its mission. That’s why so many parents, grandparents, teachers, alumni, and even past parents say they support ROBS. Their generosity is both humbling and empowering.

Revenue from tuition represents only 83 percent of the cost to operate the school. That means philanthropic gifts help cover the full cost of educating each and every student. In other words, ROBS is able to deliver a higher-value product to its students and families thanks to an amazingly generous community of friends.

Like all independent schools, we depend on the generosity of our entire community to sustain and advance our mission.

Opportunities to Support ROBS

Annual Giving

The cost to educate one student exceeds the tuition that each family pays. Gifts to the ROBS Annual Giving program help cover what tuition doesn’t. In fact, the yearly fundraising effort accounts for about 5 percent of the cost to operate the school for one year. Annual Giving allows us to maintain a best-in-class educational experience for a fraction of the cost.

Annual Giving donors of $3000 and above are invited to a leadership donor reception. Donors of $10,000 and above are invited to a private dinner with the Head of School and other Cornerstone level contributors.

Events

ROBS hosts one fundraising event during each school year–a sporting clays tournament on odd years and a gala celebration on even years. Event sponsorships, ticket sales, and auction revenue funnel into the endowment for ongoing programmatic support of the school. Please contact Tany Klaes in the Development Office regarding underwriting opportunities for either event.

Gala

The next ROBS gala will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at The Post Oak Hotel. For more information on the 2024 Gala click here.

Sporting Clays

Pull for the Future is our biennial sporting clays event. The next event will be held in spring 2025. Stay tuned for more information!

Campaign

The KIDS. LOVE. LEARNING. Capital Campaign reached its $65 million goal in 2018, allowing ROBS to carry out the largest expansion in the school’s history. We opened the Mosing Middle School Building, the Sarofim Leadership Center, and an underground parking garage in July 2020. Features of the expansion project included:

  • A new middle school building with learning communities for grades 5 – 8
  • A state-of-the-art rehearsal and performance space for choral and instrument instruction
  • A blue-box theater for drama productions
  • A graphics/robotics lab and maker space
  • Visual arts studios
  • Outdoor learning areas
  • A leadership center with a new main entrance and administrative offices
  • 150 more parking spaces

The expansion has allowed ROBS to increase enrollment while decreasing class size, alleviating the pressure on the competitive admission process and increasing breadth of electives and other offerings.

Endowment

The endowment is like a savings account for the school. As the fund grows, the annual distribution to the operating budget increases. In addition to offsetting tuition costs, a strong endowment provides financial stability and long-term viability.

The River Oaks Baptist School Endowment Fund (ROBSEF) is the largest endowment of any school of its kind in the Houston area. This means we will never have to compromise the excellence we have worked so hard to establish at ROBS. It allows us to provide your children with an extraordinary experience now, and it ensures we will continue to be outstanding, well, forever.

A planned gift allows you to donate on your terms, during your lifetime or in your will, so you can make a significant contribution without affecting your current lifestyle. Those who have made planned gifts are named to our Legacy Society. Their generosity has enormously impacted our school, and we are eternally grateful for their dedication to our mission.

Contact Meghan Blanton, Director of Marketing, Communications & Development, for more information.

More than 500 companies will match employees’ contributions to ROBS. Many companies will match gifts 1:1; some will double or even triple employee contributions. Please obtain a matching gift form from your employer, complete it, and send it to the ROBS development office. We will verify receipt of the gift and return the form to the company.

Please list Development Associate Lauren Turnham ([email protected]) as the ROBS contact for all correspondence regarding matching gift confirmations.
