Middle School

Art is one of the primary elements that define a culture. Think Bolshoi Ballet, Diego Rivera murals, and jazz greats Ella Fitzgerald and Thelonious Monk. Our arts curriculum will offer your child windows into both American and world cultures. Honing creativity, dreaming big, taking risks, and making spectacular mistakes—these are ideals that shape our arts programming.

Elective Course Offerings

With stunning spaces for orchestra, choral music, theater, digital arts, and studio art, the arts come alive in the Mosing Middle School Building. Fifth and sixth grades are years of artistic exploration, during which students rotate through Choir, Beginning Strings, Visual Art, Theatre, and Digital Literacy. Our seventh and eighth graders choose up to five electives from nearly 30 offerings ranging from Drawing and Ceramics to Theatre Intensive, Advanced Orchestra, and Yearbook.

Beginning in Middle School, talented students also take to the stage to sing, dance, and perform during our annual Variety Showcase, while Chapel services and concerts offer venues for individual performers to shine.

We aim for students to leave ROBS as knowledgeable, literate, and life-long appreciators of art in all its forms.

More than “end result” performances and projects, students learn how to reflect on their world and their place in it by experiencing art. As they work together in arts classes, students build relationships. As they engage in arts classes, they immerse themselves in sounds, sights, and lives different than their own. As they struggle with a skill, concept, or delivery, leaning into the cycle of fail-adjust-try again-repeat, they finally experience success.
