P.E. teacher and coach Teresa Neighbors was inducted into the Hall of Honors at her alma mater, Judson High School in Converse, Texas. The ceremony took place in San Antonio on January 24, 2012.
Gabriela Flores Irwin, Service Education Coordinator, was invited by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) to be a member of its People of Color Conference (PoCC) local planning committee for PoCC 2012 in Houston. PoCC is a national conference hosted by NAIS, which supports educators of diverse backgrounds in independent schools. Gabriela will represent the Houston Diversity Coalition as one of its founding members.
Eighth Grade American history teacher Barbara Luengas was named the 2011 Outstanding Teacher of American History for the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) John McKnitt Alexander local chapter. She also placed third in the state of Texas in the DAR Teacher of the Year contest.
In 2011, eighth grade English teacher Penny Jackson received the Susan O’Connor Teaching Excellence Award from the Harris County Department of Education.
Jerrod Bain, Middle School Spanish teacher, and Casey Coe, Prekindergarten teacher, each received a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Instructional Technology from Houston Baptist University in May 2011. Casey also was initiated into Kappa Delta Pi, an international honors society for educators. Jerrod was initiated into this society as an undergraduate.
Third grade teacher Ashley Ormand graduated with honors from Southern Methodist University in May 2011 with her Master of Education degree specializing in Gifted and Talented and Technology Studies. Ashley was also inducted into the Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society, a prestigious national honor society for educators. Membership is based on faculty nominations recognizing students with academic excellence and dedicated leadership in education. In addition, Ashley was recognized as a Walker Merit Scholar.
In May 2009, Mary Furman, seventh grade math teacher, received her doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Houston. |
